Project Description

I Press My Toes into Hot Road and Walk East is a poem and photobook exploring Los Angeles’ San Gabriel Valley, a region known for its prominent AAPI community. Through the subject of multilingual plaza signs, the book presents photographs taken during walks along three parallel streets that trisect the valley geographically and generationally. From north to south, they are Mission Road, Valley Boulevard, and Garvey Avenue. Lines from an eponymous poem narrate as on-screen subtitles over a non-linear sequence of images, blurring time and space.
